Anime is everything drawn in the Japanese manga style, I believe. Well the word simply means "alive" or "cartoon," so there is no official definition.

Hey good dude, i just finished watching the Elfen Lied series have you seen it? It was enjoyable, lot of nice bloody kills, but some of the characters were annoying as shit. Mad
I'll probably watch Street Fighter Alpha: The Movie, next, then maybe Gantz as i hear its got lot of violence also.
study

*EDIT:
Hey good dude, do you know of any Horror type anime or heavy violence limbs chopped off (ninja scroll) type stuff?
Ive already seen:
Hellsing - my Best Fav.
Ninja Scroll - The Movie - i'll give this lil beaut 2 thumbs up.
Vampire Hunter D & Bloodlust - mostly just like the first one
Elfen Lied - really enjoyed this one.
Chrono Crusade - was ok, but not 1 of my fav.s

I'm looking to see if i can rent "When They Cry", as i hear its more creepy type shit like elfen lied.
Oh also do you knw of any good anime sites.

Not really gory or anything but Ayakashi is pretty good, sorta traditional style japanese ghost stories

Ayakashi

Higurashi is also not bad, I was a bit torn at first as the artwork style is a bit cutesy for my liking but it does have a fair bit of violence and I like the ritualistic elements and the small town setting, reminded me of Project Zero 2 a little:

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Recently i've been watching Chaos;head which isn't strictly horror but it certainly has horror elements and I found it quite interesting:
